British Isles Dancers of Norfolk, VA Lessons

  • Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church 6901 Newport Avenue Norfolk, VA, 23505 United States (map)

THIS IS NOT AN SST EVENT. However, we have been asked to share this by our members and some folks with the British Isles Dancers of Norfolk, VA.

Here’s what they have to say: Is your Significant Other a fan of the movies Bridgerton, Sanditon, or those based upon the Jane Austen books? If so, you will find this form of dance familiar. Is he/she a fan of Revolutionary War era movies and TV shows such as Outlander, John Adams, Turn, and the Patriot? English Country Dance (ECD) was the preferred social recreation of the time. Back in the day, all people; men and women, rich or middle class, civilian and military, had some sort of competence with this form of dance.

Would you like to learn to dance like they did back then? There is a place here in the Hampton Roads area where you can learn it for little cost and have fun while you are learning - the British Isles Dancers of Norfolk's weekly get-togethers.

The get-togethers are held at 7:30 PM on Tuesday evenings at Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church, 6901 Newport Avenue, Norfolk, VA. Your first visit with us is FREE so you can see if you like it and after that it is only $3.00/week/person ($2.00 for members of the Tidewater Community Dance Council).

Bring a partner if you have one or, if not, just show up and we will be glad to partner with you. Everyone is welcome regardless of their level of English Country Dance experience (or lack thereof). Whether you are an experienced English Country Dancer looking for a new "home", or someone that is interested in learning what it is all about, make plans to join us EVERY TUESDAY NIGHT for the fun, and socializing at the British Isles Dancers of Norfolk's weekly English/Scottish Country Dance get-togethers instead of just hanging out watching movies on the streaming services.

We look forward to seeing you Tuesday night!
