The annual Portsmouth tradition is modeled after Scotland’s Hogmanay Festival, the walk is a day when townspeople honor their community and merchants, wishing good luck and prosperity in the coming year. Join the procession of families, friends and visitors led by bagpipe-and-drums.
Gather at 4 pm at the corner of Queen and Washington Streets. The walk steps off at 4:30 and continues around Olde Towne ending at the High Street Landing for a flag ceremony that honors George Washington’s raising of the first flag, the Grand Union and the singing of Auld Lang Syne. St. John's Episcopal Church, on the corner of London and High, will be open from 3:30 - 4:30 with free coffee and hot chocolate, so stop in and warm up.
Though this is not inherently a SST event, we have a big member presence. Thank you to Susan Heely and Visit Portsmouth Virginia for hosting this awesome event!
